The Next Phase is a collective of veteran musicians serving up funky grooves with vintage soul — crafting music designed to keep the room moving all night long. Fueled by a kaleidoscopic blend of funk, rock, and jam-infused improvisation, the band pulls their audiences into the groove for a dynamic live music experience.

The band was formed when guitarist Mike Bellaran and bassist Bernie Bauer connected after both relocated to the SF Bay Area in Marin County, California. Bonding over shared musical influences shaped by the Boston and L.A. music scenes, they set out to bring the kind of funky music they’d long been marinating in to the North Bay and beyond. Jazz and Latin rhythm specialist Mario Aparicio joined them on drums, and The Next Phase began.

 

The trio provides the foundation of the experience, delivering deep pockets, infectious rhythms, and fiery solos that set the tone. They are regularly joined by a rotating cast of co-conspirators who expand the sound by adding horns, keys, and more to the mix. Their live shows promise a vibrant blend of creative covers and original compositions, creating a party atmosphere where the audience becomes part of the music, and the rhythm plays the band.
